In.Clear or ISIS Bromine Salt System Chemical Instructions:

SPA CHEMISTRY USING BROMINE SALT (In Clear System or ISIS system)

PH

Ph is one of the most if not the most important part of taking care of your spa.  Your pH should be between 7.4-7.6.  When the pH is in this area the water is very comfortable to your body while swimming.  Also the sanitizing chemicals work properly when the pH is in the proper range and the water stays clearer.

What is pH?  This is a measurement of whether your water is either in an Acid (low pH) or Alkaline (high pH) state.  Any pH below 7 is an Acid.  Any pH above 7 is an alkaline.

0------------ACID----------------------7-------7.4—7.6--------ALKALINE--------------14

How do you keep pH in the proper 7.4-7.6 range?  You will use “Alkalinity increaser” and “Calcium Hardness increaser”.  These products buffer the water so the pH will remain stable and it is very easy for you to control. These products will usually last approx 4-6 months before replenishment is needed. They are tested using your strips.
Ph adjustment chemicals (plus or minus) are used for ph adjustments as needed.

Sanitizing
This is the addition of Bromine to the water at a constant rate.  Spa bromine is produced by the In Clear or ISIS system.  It converts the Bromine Salt to Free Bromine that will kill germs & oxidize waste.  After the Bromine is used it reforms back into Bromine Salt to be used again. Bromine Salt should be added only once until spa is drained and refilled.
You should maintain between 3-5ppm (parts per million) of Bromine in the water at all times.  This is adjusted on your In Clear or ISIS control panel.  Typically a 300gallon spa under normal use with 3-4hour filter cycles will set their unit to 35-50 on the panel.  A 500gal spa will be set 50-65 on the unit. Check bromine in the water with test strips and adjust your unit to fit your use patterns.

Shock (Burst)

During the use of a spa many things happen naturally.  Molds and Algae spores fall into the water and start to grow.  The human body will perspire, urinate, give off soaps and lotions from daily use, etc.  All of this is Organic Waste.  This has to be eliminated.  The use of a shock treatment on a consistent basis will oxidize these products and get them out of the water.  The In Clear or ISIS system will do this for you.  All you have to do is (at a minimum) press the “Burst” button on your unit control panel.  This will form enough Bromine to Shock the water.  Tip: You should press the “Burst” button before you get into the water at each use.  This will keep the water crystal clear.

The Three (3) steps and ideal chemical ranges:
1.  Balance PH to 7.4-7.6  , Alkalinity 80-90ppm,  Calcium Hardness 200-400ppm
2.  Maintain 3-5ppm Bromine
3.  Burst (shock) at a minimum 1/week or before each use.

Drain water as needed typically every 4-6 months (using this system maybe longer).
